Smart Snacks has officially begun for this school year! At 6:45 Friday morning, members of the Carolina Forest Sunrise Rotary and Coastal Carolina University Rotaracters joined together to pack two hundred and ten weekend meals for the students of food-insecure families of Waccamaw Elementary School. Volunteers form a human assembly line and can manage packing all the food before the school bell rings.
Smart Snacks is a food distribution program benefitting the students of Waccamaw Elementary School. The food items and bags are provided by the Conway Medical Center Foundation and the food is chosen by a CMC dietitian to ensure that not only are the students receiving food, but are also nutritionally benefitting from the healthy food provided. Without the foundation and the volunteers, these students would eat school-provided lunch Friday and maybe not eat again until Monday morning.
