Wednesday, June 3rd, was our first hybrid meeting with about half of the sixteen attendees and one guest, Jessica Dumas meeting at Legends Golf Resort and the other half on the ZOOM screen. Our speaker was Diana Greene, Chief of Administration for the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. Diana is also the Director of Leadership Grand Strand. Leadership Grand Strand (LGS) is about to begin Class 41 of a nine month class for about thirty people in the Grand Strand region. The cost is $999, but scholarships are available. Diana noted that LGS attempts to create a very diverse group in terms of age, experience, career, etc.
Aspiring leaders will be “accepted” into the program after a somewhat rigorous application process. The program meets once a month in the evenings from August through May. This includes a two day retreat out of the area in September. There will be education about tourism, economic development and business development. In addition there is a focus on the “world around us” as lead by Eileen Soysin of Coastal Carolina University. Soysin volunteers her time and puts the group through self assessment, working with others, building your leadership brand and personal accountability sessions.
There is also community service work including painting projects and working with Habitat for Humanity, New Directions, and Horry County Schools. There are already 1100 alumnae of this program in the area. Some of them are asked to return to talk to the current class and explain how LGS has helped them in their business and personal pursuits.
Thank you Diana Greene for sharing with the club!
