President Lauren introduced our speaker, David Howard, the Music Director and Treasurer of Festive
Brass of Myrtle Beach. Born in upstate New York, Dave is a Rotarian for 34 years. Dave is an expert in
marketing and selling fruit cakes for the club. Jen Egan, President of the community music ensemble,
and wife of Terry Egan, was also in attendance providing support.
The all-brass ensemble was officially launched in 1998 and has grow to more than 25 musicians. It was
founded to support the Grand Strand at all ceremonial events for the City of Myrtle Beach on Memorial
Day and Veterans Day plus past Honor Flight Celebrations.
Festive Brass is 1 of 20 bands invited by the Mayor of Honolulu as the official representative of South
Carolina to perform at the 80 th anniversary celebration of Pearl Harbor on December 4-8, 2021. In
addition to several scheduled concerts, the band members will also participate in 2 wreath-laying
ceremonies at the USS Arizona Memorial and USS Missouri to honor veterans.
Currently the band is rallying community support to cover trip costs of 24 band members and their
families by offering various corporate sponsorships ranging from $20,000 to $500. Higher sponsorship
levels include an opportunity to join the ensemble on the trip.
