Amanda Barclay M.S., CCC-SLP, A Speech-Language Pathologist and Owner of Align Speech Therapy and Consulting

Amanda Barclay has worked in the field of medical speech-language pathology since 2002.  She holds the Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed with the state of South Carolina, Arizona, and California. She graduated with her master’s degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Texas in Dallas. Amanda is an accomplished clinician, educator, and leader. She was the Speech Therapy Supervisor in a Level II Hospital Trauma Center and Certified Stroke Center in Southern California for 6 years. Amanda was adjunct faculty at Chapman University in Orange, CA  in their post-baccalaureate communication sciences and disorders certification program and taught two courses: Anatomy and Physiology and Neurology and Neurogenetics for two years. She served as Director of Therapy Services for Providence Speech and Hearing Center, a non-profit based in Southern CA, for seven years and managed the clinical staff, programs, and operations for seven outpatient locations.

Amanda’s clinical experience includes over fifteen years of evaluating and treating individuals with speech, language, cognitive, voice, and swallowing disorders. She has served individuals with diagnoses of non-traumatic and traumatic brain injury, post-concussive syndrome, stroke, cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, head and neck cancer, brain tumor, and spinal cord injury.  She is trained and skilled in executing Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) for adult and pediatric patients with dysphagia.  She is also trained in performing Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES). She supervised over 75 speech-language pathologists, graduate student interns, and clinical fellows in her previous roles. Amanda served on many hospital committees involved in the development and training for stroke and brain injury programs. She also served on a neonatal feeding and swallowing team for three years as well as a pediatric trauma team for five years.  Amanda has completed advanced training in the treatment of swallowing disorders and is certified in the McNeill Dysphagia Therapy Program.
