Steve Sassi introduced John Page, Managing Attorney at Murray Law Offices in the Carolina Forest office. John earned his Juris Doctor from the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Virginia. Since being admitted to the South Carolina Bar, John has been working as a Real Estate (60%) and Estate Planning (40%) attorney. Prior to attending law school, John received his Bachelor’s Degree from Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky. In the past, he worked in law enforcement and is a veteran of the United States Army.
In today’s meeting John talked about four major documents associated with his Estate Planning practice: 1) Last Will and Testament, 2) Power of Attorney, 3) Medical Power of Attorney, and 4) Living Will. It is important to have a Last Will and Testament to control how assets are split should you die. Otherwise, assets are split by the State of South Carolina according to prescribed rules. A Power of Attorney gives a designated individual the authority to act for you in specified or all legal or financial matters. A Medical Power of Attorney is a legal document that lets gives someone legal authority to make important decisions about your medical care. A Living Will is a written statement detailing a person’s desires regarding their medical treatment in circumstances in which they are no longer able to express informed consent.
